Me too. I'm not a big fan of rap or hip hop. I'll admit that there are some folks that do it very well, which is a 'talent', and it definitely classifies as entertainment. imo to call it music is a stretch.

The part that cracks me up with they refer to rappers as "musicians". Makes me wanna ask, "so what musical instrument do you play?"

the human voice IS the ultimate instrument. In fact most other instruments are designed to emulate the voice. However, using the voice for rap would be the equivalent of putting a Stradivarius in a garbage disposal to make 'music'.

it's not all bad though, there's a few hip hop artists I can groove to. J5 for one example.

On the 19th the last band I worked for, I am professionally trained Live Sound Tech, is coming up from Binghamton to play at Centerfield Bar & Grill in Rotterdam. They are little harder rock, somewhere between Slayer and Breaking Benjamin. If you are interested let me know they usually put on a pretty good high energy show.

Lotsa awesome live music happening around the area lately...and some for free.

Like Bootsy Collins at Alive at 5 tonight! That's right, the world renowned king of funk bass, formerly of Parliament Funkadelic and before that with James Brown's band is playing the Albany waterfront for FREE tonight.

BTW, there are a number of other Alive at 5's worth going to this year (for a change) like Dicky Betts (of the Allmann Bros) in 2 weeks. There's also the Music Haven concert series in Central Park on Sunday nights, which includes Diego Garcia in their line up this year, as well as free concert series in Saratoga, Glens Falls, and Lake George.

Live music rules.

Hello Everybody!
The 45s will be bringing it to Albany on July 5th at McGeary's. Big Blues night in town! Michael O'Leary will be singing and playing his tenor guitar. His son Scott will be wailing on the blues harp. Other son Mike will be setting the rhythm on drums and his soulful vocals are sure to thrill. Ralph Marcario will be howling and covering the keyboards. I'll hold the bottom together on bass and contribute to the vocals, too. We will make you move, I promise. Expect us to start around 8. McGeary's is on Broadway, just across from the Palace Theater. Please come and bring all your friends!

10 Years at Northern Lights/Upstate Concert Hall tonight. Been wanting to see them for a few years but I think it's the first time they've come around here. Possibilities for me this summer at the same venue - Streetlight Manifesto, Social Distortion, Jimmy Eat World, Gaslight Anthem, Matisyahu.

Ommegang concerts this summer announced so far - Old Crow Medicine Show, Grace Potter, Black Crowes.

Waiting to see what Saranac Brewery (in Utica) has for concerts this year.

Mountain Jam still up in the air for me - don't think I can do the full weekend, but one day tix are up there in price and a lot of the best artists are spread out over the days (for obvious reasons)...hmmm...
