Woodstock Rocks Closed by Buildings Department

Post by bill dubilier » Wed Apr 01, 2009 9:14 am

Sorry folks but Rocks is closed for good.
Apparently the town has come down hard on the owner with fines, etc.
We don't have the proper permits for the land so the owner asked me to post this notice:

WOODSTOCK IS CLOSED INDEFINITELY.

I'm filing for the permits.

Will keep everyone posted.

Woodstock Rocks Closed by Buildings Department

Sorry this is not a joke, I spoke with the buildings department and the owner.

Anyone familiar with zoning and special permits please help me to appeal to the town if we ever want to play the course again.

We need site plans, parking plans, special recreation permit, building department approval, etc.

I'm meeting with the owner and buildings dept. tomorrow.

Really, really bummed about this!

Looking over old posts-

On July 8th 2008 Bill Dublier posted-That there was a stop work order posted on a tree by the Buildings Dept of Woodstock.

On July 12th Skot Hanna posted-a little squabble between ex land owner, and current land owner led to a little action by a town official caught in the middle.

The stop work order was taken down, and everything seemed to be worked out within a few days.

No problems in the past 8 months, then all of a sudden the Buildings department is talking fines, and closure of the course due to lack of permits.

Why would the BD get involved after all this time?

Did they receive complaints about lack of permits?

The buildings department got down on the owner that's all I know.

The owner is a developer so he can't fight the buildings dept. but I can and am.

My Father has experience with Zoning permits etc. He is more than willing to help.

My dad has a few questions

1. What is the specific zoning violation?
2. What is the official name of the town?
3. Who is the person that closed the course?

Thanks Bill

Hey Scott;

As far as I know:

1) the property is zoned R3 - residential 3 acres. I don't know the violation.
2) the name of the town is Woodstock, NY
3) the head of the buildings department is Paul Shultis (who shut it down)

I've contacts at the recreation department and at the town council so that is who I spoke to so far. Meeting with the owner tomorrow to get a letter of authorization to bring to the building dept. to start the filing process.

Really upset about the whole thing.

Please please keep out so we don't have any violations, I have to go by the rules now.

Hmm I assumed one of you guys asked tim over at dgcr to take the course down temporarily. If it was not one of us that could mean the town googled the course and asked to have it removed. That would not be a good sign at all.

It might be worth it to send Timg a PM on his site and ask where the request came from.
