I get asked a lot when I have shows in or around town, so here's a couple upcoming:

Tomorrow, June 20, at the Funny Bone in Syracuse. 7:30 start.

Tuesday, June 25, 8PM, a prelim round to get into the Boston Comedy Festival. If this goes well, I will have another round or two on June 28 & 29.

My July is sadly vacant of shows, anyone hiring?

Just to follow up on this, I won my prelim round last night. I have a semi-final on this Friday, June 28th at 7:30. Tickets are only $10.

The way this is working, is there are 9 of us that are going to be on the show on Friday, doing 8-10 minutes each. If I finish in the top three, I will be there saturday @ 9:30, doing 13-15 minutes (tickets are $15 to the finals). If I finish in the top one, I'll be performing in the Boston Comedy Festival in November.

I think I have a realistic shot at taking this down (it turns out I'm good and stuff), and if anyone wants to show up and lend some DisCap support, I'd appreciate it. It's not a bringer show (where you need X amount of people to show up to go on stage), so I don't NEED the support, but if you're not doing anything, it's always nice to see some familiar faces in the crowd.

Yup. These are both at the Comedy Works.

Located at:
500 Northern Blvd
Albany, NY 12204

Right next to the hospital there. It's a real nice venue for comedy, way better than the hotel back-room they used to run.

Show runs about 90 minutes. The next show is scheduled for 9:00 on Friday, so we better finish before that.

The Saturday show is 9:30-11:00. I'm hoping to make it to that one.

Comedy contests can be so hit and miss. Everything matters, from what number you randomly drew for your spot on the show (almost no one does well in the #1 spot), to if the guy that goes on before you swears too much and turns the crowd.

I hate comedy contests, but, I'd like to be a part of the Boston Comedy Festival. In addition, there's a weekend of middle (30 minute sets) available for the winner of the contest as well. So, it's kind of like a job interview and 2nd and 3rd interviews to see if you're hired for one weekend. If that makes any sense.

a slight update, there was a typo on the late show there. The late show Friday starts at 9:30, not 9:00 (they had it mislabeled on their calendar on their website). However, they need to turn-over the room in-between shows, so I am assuming the 7:30 show (the one I'm on) will still end right around 9.

Generally yes.
Sometimes they're more expensive at the door, I'm not sure about the show tomorrow night, if that's the case or not. I recommend going through their website at www.thecomedyworks.com or calling 1-877-joke-tix.

While I wouldn't expect a sellout for the show, I know the Tuesday shows were about 70% capacity, and that's without the regular weekend crowd involved, so you never know.

They also have really good food there, especially for a comedy club. They have 2 menus, a "live forever" menu with healthier options, and a "live for today" menu with the greasy/fried stuff. And, I'll declare they have the best fries outside of 5 guys...

Just an update: I won my round tonight. I'm in the final 6 for a spot at the Boston Comedy Festival. Saturday at 9:30 is the final.

Quite honestly, if the turnout is in the favor of the other two finalists like it was tonight, I don't expect to win. So, if you're ever feeling like heading out to one of my shows, tomorrow night (Saturday) is a good one.

after a few weeks of dealing with my day job for approval, my blogs are going to be running regularly at this point. I have 1-2 already in the queue for this and next week regarding something having to do at least tangentally with disc golf.
